Wiltshire Council are consulting on their Regulation 19 draft Local Plan and its policies. The draft Local Plan sets out Wiltshire Council’s strategic vision for growth, providing land to meet objectively assessed development needs, providing for infrastructure, environmental improvements and necessary mitigating and adapting measures to tackle the impacts of climate change. It contains policies that will be used in the determination of planning applications. Specifically, it includes area strategies for the Chippenham, Salisbury, Swindon and Trowbridge Housing Market Areas and more general economic, social and environmental policies that development is expected to comply with.
The consultation opened on the 27th September and will close on the 22nd November. Comments on the consultation can be submitted online on the Council’s website, and numerous drop-in events are being held across the district throughout October where residents and other interested parties can discuss the plan with the Council’s policy team and find out more about the consultation.
Once the consultation has ended, the Plan, accompanying evidence and comments received from the consultation will be submitted to the Secretary of State, where an Inspector will be appointed to independently examine the Plan and will assess whether it meets the relevant legal requirements, complies with the Duty to Cooperate, and is sound. If these tests are met, the Council will be able to adopt the emerging Local Plan, which would replace the existing Local Plan.
