Basingstoke and Deane are on the lookout for sites to allocate for residential and non-residential development in their Local Plan.
The Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan was only adopted in 2024, however the recently published National Planning Policy Framework requires more homes and supporting infrastructure to be delivered across the country and many local planning authorities, such as Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, are looking to allocate more sites in their Local Plan to meet these new requirements. They are looking to allocate sites for houses, gypsy and traveller pitches, employment uses, renewable energy, biodiversity net gain and nutrient mitigation in the River Test and Itchen catchments.
To achieve this, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have commenced a call for sites consultation whereby landowners and other stakeholders can submit sites for consideration for allocation in the Local Plan. The benefit of a site allocation is that it gives policy support for the development of specific sites which in essence establishes the principle of certain development, giving landowners an advantage over submitting a speculative application for development.
The call for sites consultation is now open and will close on Monday 17th February. More information can be found on the Basingstoke and Deane website at https://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/cfs-2025.
Members of the Squires Planning team have experience in assisting landowners with the submission of sites in these consultations, with numerous successful allocations by demonstrating how sites are ideal for development. If you have a site that you would like to promote in this call for sites consultation, get in touch to see how we can help.
