Adur District Council are reviewing their Local Plan to ensure that it remains relevant and addresses Adur’s needs for development and infrastructure. The Local Authority have stated that it will address an increased housing target set by the Government, and the local need for affordable homes means that providing more homes will be a priority, amongst other matters.

The current Local Plan was adopted in December 2017 and sets the strategic development and land-use prioritise for Adur (outside of the South Downs National Park) up to 2032. If eventually adopted, this reviewed Local Plan would replace the current Local Plan and its policies would be used in the determination of planning applications.

The Government are consulting on changes to the way that local plans are prepared. Should these proposals be implemented, the last date by which a local plan prepared under the current system can be submitted is in June 2025. As such, Adur District Council have identified that they may have to be flexible in the way that the Local Plan is reviewed if they cannot meet the June 2025 deadline.

The Council have set out a proposed timeline for the review of the plan as follows:

  • Consultation on the draft Local Plan (Regulation 18) – Summer 2024
  • Publication of the Local Plan (Regulation 19) – Spring 2025
  • Submission – Summer 2025
  • Examination – Autumn 2025
  • Adoption – Winter 2025
