Gosport Borough Council are preparing a new Local Plan that will identify sites for housing, employment and other land uses as well as protecting the Borough’s open space, nature conservation and heritage. It will be used in the determination of planning applications across the Borough and will cover the period to 2038.
To date, the Council have identified key issues facing the Borough and have built their evidence base through a series of consultations with the community. Most recently, a consultation was undertaken between September and December 2021 on the Regulation 18 draft. The Council are now looking to update the draft plan based on the consultation responses, before a final round of consultation on the Regulation 19 draft will be undertaken which is anticipated to be in 2024.
In the meantime, the Council are running a Call for Sites whereby individuals and organisations can put forward sites that may be suitable for development. These sites are assessed by the Council and where they meet certain criteria, can be allocated in the Local Plan for development. This is beneficial for landowners as it can make it easier to obtain planning permission on your land.
Submitting a site in the Call for Sites process can be challenging, and a strong argument must be put forward as to why the site should be allocated in the plan. Squires Planning help landowners and other interested parties submit sites through Calls for Sites. The Call for Sites is currently open and will run until the 9th June 2023.
