Babergh and Mid Suffolk are in the process of preparing a Join Local Plan Part 2, which will support the recently adopted Joint Local Plan Part 1 2018-2037. The Council have indicated that the Join Local Plan Part 2 will likely include a settlement hierarchy, spatial distribution, land allocations for development and open space. Its policies would be used in the determination of planning applications in Babergh and Mid Suffolk.

As part of the Joint Local Plan Part 2, the Council are looking at allocating sites for residential development including supported and special needs housing.  They have therefore launched a Call for Sites exercise where residents, businesses and other stakeholders can submit a site that may be suitable for residential development. There should be a reasonable prospect that the sites will become available for development or redevelopment within the plan period (up to 2037) and they should be within the Babergh and Mid Suffolk administrative boundaries. Cross-boundary sites may be considered but will need to be clearly identified.

These sites will then be assessed by the Council who will determine whether or not they should proceed and be allocated in the Plan. If allocated, the site will be supported for residential development so long as policy criteria are met. The Council have highlighted that they may undertake a Call for Sites for other land uses in the future.

The Call for Sites is open and will run until the 2nd February 2024. More information on the consultation can be found on the Babergh and Mid Suffolk website.

The Call for Sites process can be challenging so get in touch with Squires Planning to see how we can help to make your site submission as strong as possible.
