Lewes District Council are preparing a new Local Plan that will cover the District outside of the South Down National Park. The new plan will replace the existing Local Plan and its policies used in the determination of planning applications within the District. The new Local Plan will address issues are homes, jobs, community facilities and services to meet the needs of people living, working and visiting the plan area in a sustainable manner.

As part of the preparation of the Plan, Lewes District Council are running a consultation on the spatial strategy and policy directions. The document outlines the preferred vision, aims and key planning issues affecting the plan area, as well as proposed policy directions for addressing these and potential locations for new development and growth.

The consultation provides residents, businesses, organisations and other stakeholders with an opportunity to influence the direction of the Plan and its policies to provide insight into how the relevant issues might be overcome and how development might come forward. It opened on the 29th November 2023 and will close on the 8th February 2024.

Further information on the emerging Local Plan and the consultation can be found on the Council’s website.
