Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council are preparing an updated Local Plan that will be a framework to guide future development and planning decisions in the borough up to 2040. It will be an update on the existing Local Plan to ensure that it remains fit for purpose, delivers local priorities, meets future needs and reflects current national planning guidance. The draft plan includes a strategy about what type of development will take place and where. It includes key priorities around climate change and ecological emergency declarations, protecting and enhancing the borough’s natural environment, meeting local housing need and maximising delivery of affordable housing and creating distinctive, healthy and beautiful communities.
The public consultation on the Regulation 18 draft Local Plan has commenced and provides local residents, businesses and organisations with an opportunity to comment on the Plan, its policies and supporting text, and other documents that form part of the evidence base. These comments can shape the direction of the Plan and its proposals, and can have a meaningful impact on the future of the borough.
During the consultation period, the Council are running an online event focussing on the Plan’s approach to climate change, alongside 4 public drop-in events where visitors can ask questions about the Plan and the consultation. The consultation opened on the 22nd January 2024 and will close on the 4th March 2024. More information on the consultation is available on the Council’s website.
