Squires Planning was approached to provide assistance securing planning permission for engineering works, aimed at enhancing land drainage and grazing conditions at Lomond Equestrian Centre. The site consisted of four paddocks, all of which experienced waterlogging issues during periods of heavy rainfall, making them unsuitable for winter use. These issues were primarily attributed to the terrain and inadequate drainage system in place.

The proposed solution involved maintaining the existing topography while selectively elevating it to ensure appropriate gradients, facilitating efficient drainage across the site and preventing the formation of stagnant water. During periods of intense rainfall, this approach would enable water to flow towards the ditches and ponds located along the periphery of each paddock, either on the surface or through underground land drains. Whilst the works may seem minor, they would involve the importation of some 11,473 cubic meters of soil, on 1,500 lorry loads 

Preparing a successful application required a diverse range of inputs. We closely collaborated with the appointed landscape architect, arboriculturist, ecologist, flooding and drainage specialist, as well as the highways consultant, to advance the application. To demonstrate the suitability of the proposed works within the Green Belt and their respectful integration with the landscape, we prepared a comprehensive Planning Statement.

Despite a minor delay in waiting for representations from consultees, the application was ultimately processed through delegated authority with planning permission being granted.
